Last summer we spend a weekend in the Belgium city of Ghent. We had some great, sunny weather and therefore loved to stroll through the city. During our walk through the city center, we found out that there is a lot of street art to be found. Not only in the famous graffiti street in Ghent but everywhere throughout the city you will find beautiful works of art painted on the walls. The nice thing is, there is a special street art route in Ghent: the SORRY NOT SORRY tour.

Ghent is a fun city to discover during a city trip lasting a few days. The city is fairly small and it’s easy to explore the whole city center on foot. The largest part of the center is car-free, so you can really stroll around comfortably. You will find beautiful squares, lively markets, and many, many museums. Do you want to do something different than just visit the ‘standard’ sights of Ghent? Then you might want to consider walking (or biking!) the SORRY NOT SORRY street art route in Ghent!

The SORRY, NOT SORRY program

SORRY, NOT SORRY was a successful street art program that was organized by the City of Ghent in 2015-2016. Now that the event has ended, the city commits itself to keep the works available and a map has been made on which all artworks have been collected. As a result, you can still discover all the artworks by biking or walking through the city. You can view the map digitally on this website. Do you want to take it with you during your visit to Ghent? Download the pdf on your phone or print it in advance. You can also get a copy of the map at some tourist offices in the city, like the Stadswinkel, Cultuur Gent, Visit Gent or Graffiti vzw.

On a quest through Ghent

Even though all the artworks are pinpointed on the map, some of them are pretty well hidden. But that’s half of the fun, we believe! Because of this, we felt that we were taking part in some sort of quest; which we thought was awesome! You can find artworks in the middle of a residential area or ones that occupy an entire side wall of a house. How cool is it to have a piece of art like this one on the side of your home?
